Gratitude Party

Tonight we went to our first gratitude party. It was an extraordinary evening of connection, sharing and joy.

Eight years ago our friend's daughter not only survived a brain tumor, she made a miraculous recovery. At 12 years old, she's a happy, normal, fully functioning kid. That is a miracle.

Every year, they bring together the people who sat with them, prayed, and cried. They celebrate the miracle and acknowledge how grateful they are that she is well. They experience and share the miracle of not just their daughter, but all their children, friends and family. As if for the very first time.

I could write about the scientific studies showing that people who are surrounded by loved ones heal faster, how gratitude releases dopamine and has other physical benefits to the body, and so on...

But really, it just feels great to feel profoundly grateful for what we have.

Setting intentions

The responses to the Queensland floods are inspiring and yet another example of Australian generosity in the face of disaster.

However, Cotton On's campaign stands out as an awesome declaration of intention.

The signs on their storefront windows do not merely ask for help. They say "WE WILL RAISE $1 MILLION". The language says it all. They will make this happen and invite you to join them.

Forget New Year's resolutions. Why not state your intentions?

Then, make them happen.
